Artists Statement

To be successful as a Fine Arts Photographer one must be an artist, have a strong artistic vision, be a gifted photographer and a master level printer and be driven to achieve perfection. I believe that the work encompassed within my galleries is a Reflection of these professional and personal traits. While I have been a working professional photographer for over thirty years, I founded Reflections - Fine Art Images in 2003 specifically to present my vision and artwork to the public and to begin a dialog with the viewers on my images and their content.

I am fascinated by both the Natural and the Man-Made Environments. I find that my exploration of these subject areas increases my personal understanding of our past and present cultures. Continuously evaluating these subjects helps me to understand better who we are and have been, and who I am in relation to the world at large. This seems to be a never ending learning experience for me, in that, the more that I explore, the more that I see and more clearly do I grasp all that surrounds me.

I am a Large Format and Medium Format Photographer exclusively. I work only with film capture within these film formats for both Black and White and Color images. These large negative or transparency sizes provide the tonal quality and the richness of detail that are apparent in my work. Both the Large Format and Medium Format camera systems provide me with in-camera exposure options and image management options that I can control precisely for optimum results, and which are not available in other image capture systems. As I also personally develop my own Black and White negatives with a PMK (Pyro) developer formulation and have my Color transparencies developed to my specifications, I can obtain the highest quality image capture results with this total image capture system. This method of image capture and film development is consistent with my quest for perfection and for the highest quality standards achievable for my work.
